Archos released their new generation 9 Turbo Version of the Archos 101 in January 2012. They had this on hand at their booth at CES 2012 in Las Vegas. Archos are taking the tablet world by storm, extremely popular in Europe, it's still taking time to find ground in North America. They are well known for their high quality PMP personal movie players, now with 8 prior generations on tablets have they finally worked out the winning equation to an excellent tablet? The 101 G9 Turbo, which is a mouthful to say quickly specially with my Australian drawl finally boasts specs worth talking about. The CPU is an OMAP4460 4 Smart multi-core ARM CORTEX A9 from 1.2Ghz to 1.5Ghz. In comparison to the 1Ghz single core A8 in the Classic G9 101. For more specs check out the wiki page here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archos#Generation_9 Although this is just talking about the Classic (non turbo) version of 2011. I am told this can handle an output through the Mini HDMI at 1080p with 60 frames per second (fps). Currently many retailers have these on offer but there isn't a great deal of indepth information or hands on reviews. So this past week Downunder Audio Contacted Max Borge Agency who handles PR and digital marketing for Archos in North America. We requested for a review sample of the new G9 and offered to write a detailed review and video unboxing and test of the new tablet. A few days later we were told that due to having all review units already on loan and a long list of other groups already on the list that we were not elegible for this. Well in true Aussie spirit we decided to bite the bullet and just buy our own in order to see how good this new Media tablet really is, Just for you! Our new little (not so little) Archos tablet is currently in transit so in a week or two we will have it in our hands to share you all that is great and possibly hopeless about the Archos 101 G9 Turbo. We will be doing a written and recording a video review for our video channel. Screen Video quality, output HDMI quality and Audio quality will be tested. We might even pair this up with Electric Avenues PA2V2 headphone amplifier to give you a comparison there! Hopefully Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 will be released soon. One was seen using ICS 4.0.3 at CES 2012 I suspect that won't be until March 14 at the Annual Archos Financial Press Conference in Paris, France. ICS was promised for the first week of February 2012 but there is still absolutely no news anywhere on when this will occur. Stay tuned for more updates!! You can keep up to date with Archos here
